Origins

Dr. Lawrence Tong is a Toronto native, the child of immigrants who came to Canada in search of a brighter future. He pursued his undergraduate education at the University of Western Ontario before attending the University of Toronto for medical school.

After earning his medical degree, Dr. Tong was drawn to the prestigious University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor to fulfill his ambition of becoming a surgeon. Here, he specialized in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

The University of Michigan Medical System is frequently listed among the top hospitals in the United States by US News & World Report, most recently being listed on the U.S. News 2023-2024 Best Hospitals Honor Roll. The institution is celebrated for having one of the premier plastic surgery training programs in the country, providing Dr. Tong with a robust foundation in surgical techniques and patient care.

Completing the intensive seven-year program in plastic surgery, Dr. Tong then joined a leading cosmetic plastic surgery practice in Michigan, known for its high volume and wide reach. It was there that he established a successful practice, earning the trust and loyalty of his patients.

Transitions

In his ninth year of professional practice, Dr. Tong made the heartfelt decision to move back to Canada to be closer to his family. He opted to establish his private cosmetic surgery practice in Toronto’s prestigious Yorkville area.

Investigator and Teacher

Not limited to the clinical realm, Dr. Tong has been active in plastic surgery research and education.

While in practise in Michigan, he was part of the Providence Hospital/Wayne State University Plastic Surgery teaching staff, where he mentored, taught, and lectured plastic surgery fellows-in-training. Dr. Tong regularly attends plastic surgery conferences and symposia in order to keep abreast of the latest scientific findings, technologies, and trends in plastic surgery.

Dr. Tong was recently invited as a presenter for the ‘YPS Fresh Faces Panel’ at the 2010 national meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, held in Toronto. At that same meeting, he was also invited to be a co-moderator for the meeting’s Aesthetic Surgery research papers presentations panel.
